Animal Odor Control

Have you ever been driving down the road on a beautiful summer day, windows down, hair frolicking in the wind, your mind at ease when all of a sudden it is rudely interrupted by a gut twisting stench of a dead animal protrudes your nose?  This can be a terrifying experience.  Imagine this stench in your backyard or even worse in the walls of your home.  This problem can be a huge head ache, or better yet, vomit inducing, however, it is important to properly deal with this problem.

The most important step is to find the location of the odor. This odor is due to the gases: sulfur dioxide, methane, benzene derivatives, and hydrocarbons that are given off during the decomposition process.  The dead animal will give off the disgusting odor until it is either completely decomposed or until the body fluids are completely removed, dried out.  If you are not completely positive what this odor smells like you can look for other signs besides the odor.  Such as flies.  Flies and maggots are generally in or around this decomposing animal.  Although the best tool to use is your nose.  You need to look everywhere.  Search both inside and outside.  Look in your attic, basement, crawlspace, closets, garden, and anywhere you think possible or impossible for an animal to reach.  You might be surprised where you might find it.

After you have located the decaying animal you then need to pour liquid bleach over top of it.  Then proceed to get rid of the carcass.  You can either use a shovel to place it into a plastic bag or if you are braver then most you can pick up the carcass using gloves.  After the carcass is in the bag tie the bag tightly so that the odor cannot leak out.  For the best outcome place the bagged carcass into another bag and also tightly tie it. Once the carcass is removed from the area pour more bleach onto the location the carcass was located.  This will get rid of the odor left from decomposition.  If you are outdoors you can use gasoline to get rid of the odor as well, instead of bleach.

When it comes to gut clinching odors there is nothing worse than the odor of a decaying animal carcass.  You need to take care of the odor as soon as possible.  The odor will not get better by itself.   The carcass needs to be removed and the odor treated. There are many professional services out there to help people with this problem. Just look one up in your area.
